Program Partner Training Information
Through grants funded by The Corporation for National and Community Service, Prevent Child Abuse CA (PCA CA) collaborates with schools, family resource centers, community-based programs, and non-profit organizations to help prevent child abuse and neglect by utilizing AmeriCorps members to serve the needs of children and families throughout communities in California.
The Corporation for National and Community Service strongly believes in the personal and professional development of AmeriCorps members through training and suggests that up 20% of a member’s term of service be devoted to training. Towards that goal, PCA CA provides effective and comprehensive training that develops competent members that provide great service.
The trainings listed below include four categories of trainings: PCA CA Mandated Trainings, Additional Mandatory Trainings, Program Specific Trainings, and Other Trainings. Many of the mandatory and program specific trainings were documented in the program grants as trainings members would receive during their term of service.
PCA CA Mandated Trainings: These include the top-ranked trainings requested by the
AmeriCorps partners and have been deemed as required by PCA CA:
- Active Citizens
- Boundaries and Confidentiality
- Child Development and Parent Interaction
- Conflict Resolution
- Cultural Awareness
- Family Violence
These trainings provide members with essential skills and knowledge for their service terms. These six trainings are offered through the PCA CA Regional Training Calendar.
Additional Mandatory Trainings: The additional required trainings consist of trainings that will also provide core skills and knowledge to AmeriCorps members, yet these are not offered by PCA CA:
- AmeriCorps Orientation/ Site Orientation
- Certified Emergency Response Training
- Family Worker Training/Home Visitation
- Mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training
- Team Building
- Volunteer Management (California Service Corps will offer regionalized Volunteer Management Training Fall 2005).
Lead agencies are encouraged to utilize staff and local resources to deliver these trainings.
Program Specific Trainings (Suggested): These suggested trainings are program specific and may not relate to all AmeriCorps programs:
- Child/ Home/ Personal Safety
- CPR/ First Aid
- Early Literacy
- Local Community Resources
- Orientation to Kits for New Parents
- Parenting Skills
- School Readiness
- Healthy Families America
Other Trainings: Informal training that occurs during staff meetings, 1:1’s, and in-service
trainings may all be counted towards the 20% of training time during the member’s term of service.
Remember, all training should be documented on the Member Training Log and submitted to the appropriate PCA CA Project Manager every quarter.
